Pollution Maps
Maps created after receiving a grant from the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute.
Mapping for Empathy series
The New Jersey Meadowlands are a place of contradiction: Wildlife and landfills, pollution and recovery, salt and freshwater, industry and nature. I spent a week aboard the Sea Wolf research vessel working with scientists interested in measuring sea level rise, pollution and their effect on the Hudson River. Later, I returned to the Meadowlands with heightened curiosity about how the same factors effect my favorite nature preserve-slash-landfill.
I was given access to their library and GIS mapping system. I also had some very unusual experiences when I asked about public data for pollution monitoring. The results of those interactions influenced my distortion and treatment of these maps.
